We are excited to share that Numerica has joined an exclusive group of global companies and organizations after receiving an official International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 certification. Recently awarded for the design and manufacturing of our Spyglass™ short-range surveillance radar, this prestigious stamp of approval means that the quality management system implemented to bring our short-range ground and air surveillance radar product to market has been deemed one of the best in the industry by one of the world’s foremost accreditation authorities.

The certification for Numerica’s quality management system for Spyglass radar was issued through Platinum Registration, a Denver-based ANAB-accredited management system certification body, and awarded on March 10, 2022. The strict requirements of the certification ensure that our product will consistently meet customers’ requirements once delivered and that product quality will be regularly analyzed and improved as necessary. In other words, our customers can be confident that the Spyglass radar they will soon rely on is truly one of the best in the industry.

What is Spyglass radar?

Introduced in February 2021, Spyglass radar is a 3D radar for counter unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) and short-range ground and air defense missions. Designed to fill the need for exceptional C-UAS detection and tracking performance, the Spyglass radar supports a broad set of applications including facility security, border surveillance, convoy and vehicle protection, air space monitoring and more. With a high degree of configurability and out-of-the-box support for distributed operations, the Spyglass radar’s software-driven control capabilities enable seamless integration into layered defense systems.

Why an ISO 9001:2015 certification?

Since 1946, the ISO has stood for quality, confidence, trust and safety. The ISO 9001:2015 standard sets the criteria for a quality management system and is the only standard in ISO 9000 series that can be certified to. Organizations large and small, and from many different industries, have been certified with this designation. There are over one million companies and organizations in over 170 countries certified to ISO 9001:2015.

The ISO 9001:2015 standard is based on several quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement. Using ISO 9001:2015 helps ensure our customers will receive a consistent experience and a high-quality Spyglass radar product.

Quality management systems that implement ISO9001:2015 utilize the PDCA cycle, meaning Plan-Do-Check-Act. The PDCA cycle can be briefly described as follows:

  • Plan: Establish the objectives of the system and its processes, the resources needed to deliver results in accordance with customers’ requirements, the organization’s policies and identify and address risks and opportunities.
  • Do: Implement what was planned.
  • Check: Monitor and (where applicable) measure processes and the resulting products and services against policies, objectives, requirements and planned activities and report the results.
  • Act: Take actions to improve performance, as necessary.

This PDCA cycle coupled with thorough risk assessment allows Numerica to ensure that Spyglass radar and our associated design and manufacturing processes are continually improving. Our recent successful ISO9001:2015 registration signifies that our team is quality and customer-focused and that our processes implement best practices and the high standards of the ISO specification.
